B.T. Slingsby, MD, PhD, MPH Co-founder
Dr. Slingsby co-founded Equity Editors Association in 2007 as a market-based solution to generating funds for global health entities. He was also involved with the founding of ProEdit Japan, Inc. and UJMED. Dr. Slingsby has served as an invited assistant professor at Keio University, a Freeman Research Fellow at the School of Medicine in Hawaii, a special research fellow at the University of Tokyo and an adjunct assistant professor at Kyoto University. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles in English and Japanese in journals including Academic Medicine, Journal of General Internal Medicine, Journal of Public Health, and the Lancet (Pubmed references). Dr. Slingsby graduated from Brown University with honors, earned his Masters and Doctorate from Kyoto University and the University of Tokyo, and received his Medical Doctorate from the George Washington University.
Duncan Smith-Rohrberg Maru, MD, PhD, MPhil Co-founder
Dr. Maru is a founding director of Nyaya Health based at the Yale University School of Medicine. He is a public health researcher who has published widely on aspects of social medicine, substance abuse, HIV, and tuberculosis in journals such as Nature, JAIDS, the Lancet Infectious Diseases, PLoS Medicine, and Clinical Infectious Diseases. Jennifer Guo, MS. Director of Partnerships
Jennifer is an MD/PhD candidate at the Yale University School of
Medicine, where her research focuses on neuroimaging of epilepsy. She received her undergraduate and master's degrees in neuroscience at
Johns Hopkins University. Her research and scientific interests
include cognitive neuroscience, language, attention, consciousness,
fMRI, and bioethics. In parallel, her interest in social justice and
public health has led her to become involved with procurement projects
for Nyaya Health.
D. Ellen K. Tarr, PhD Director of Editors.
Dr. Tarr is an assistant professor in the Department of Microbiology at Midwestern University's College of Osteopathic Medicine in Glendale, AZ, and a senior editor for EquityEdit. Prior to accepting her current position, she was part of the IRACDA post-doctoral program at KU where she taught for three years at Haskell Indian Nations University, a minority-serving institution with an exclusively Native American enrollment. Her current research interests are comparative immunology and host-pathogen interactions, specifically immune defense mechanisms in nematodes and parasitic nematode infections. Her previous work has been published in Molecular and Biochemical Parasitology, Trends in Parasitology, and Gene.
Christopher Jones, Director of Technology
Christopher Jones is principal and creative director of Stellar Debris, a media, marketing, and design agency based in Tokyo. A graduate of the University of Alabama, he has also studied at the Florida State University, Indiana University, and Moscow State Conservatory. His industry involvement has included positions as marketing director for the Advertising Association of Northern Nevada, vice president of marketing for the Reno-Tahoe American Marketing Association, and as a judge for international design competitions including the Summit International Creative Awards, Marketing Effectiveness Awards, and Emerging Media Awards. Christopher settled in Tokyo in 1997.
Shefali Oza, MSc Board Member
Shefali recently completed her M.Sc. in Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Prior to her degree, she did health statistics research as a Post-Bachelor Fellow at the Harvard Initiative for Global Health. She has also worked on public health issues in Peru, South Africa, and India. Her work has been published in JAMA and Circulation.
